Partner Relationship Management software has two problems; partners do not use the customer relationship management software and the cost of CRM tools is prohibitive.
The promise of partner relationship management is to create a layer of partner communication which envelops all partners. Sales data, like leads and opportunities, can be distributed to the partner and the partner can update sales records which are assigned to the partner. Partners can register new deals to stake a claim and prevent channel conflict. There are two reasons why current partner relationship management tools do not work for small, medium manufacturing companies:
- High Cost of Providing a Partner Portal: software tools assign user fees. The pricing model for all users to access a portal varies from 65 to 100 per user per month. Even the smallest networks, say 10 rep firms each with 5 salespeople, are cost prohibitive to deploy partner relationship management.
- Hard to Use: The current flock of tools, salesforce.com and other commercial crm tools, are just impossible for a busy partner to login to and to use. Many partners are much bigger companies than small, medium manufacturers and will not march to the supplier drum. User adoption of the PRM tool is low, degrading data quality to unusable levels.
